Best Tools for Copywriting
Thesaurus
Have you ever tried to write a piece of content or copy and suddenly realized that you were repeating the same word over and over again?
This used to happen to me ALL THE TIME before I found Thesaurus, one of the best free copywriting tools out there!
Thesaurus is a website that helps you find synonyms for overused words so your writing stays engaging and fresh.
I use it a ton to break away from buzzwords…
…and not gonna lie: the grammar tips and word of the day are always fun if you’re a word nerd like me.
Word Counter
Word Counter is a simple copywriting tool that is super helpful when you’re writing something that has a character limit.
There are many word counter tools out there, but my favorite is this one.
I love it because it helps you see the character and word limits that certain platforms have, and it’s an easy way to check your copy against platform requirements.
Grammarly
Grammarly is one of the best copywriting tools to use in your writing process.
It not only gives you handy spell-checking and grammar corrections, but also provides valuable insights into writing style, clarity, and tone so you can create content that speaks to your target audience and expresses your brand personality.
If you’re looking for editing tools, I highly recommend Grammarly to both emerging and professional copywriters!
Another reason Grammarly has made it to my list of best copywriting tools is its plagiarism checker feature.
It safeguards you from unintentional plagiarism by scanning content against a vast database of web pages and academic papers.
It’s one of the most powerful word-processing features that comes in really handy for online content creation.
While the free version checks for essential spelling and grammar errors, Grammarly Premium takes it a step further with advanced features like genre-specific writing style checks, vocabulary enhancement suggestions, and a sophisticated plagiarism detector.
It’s one of the best copywriting tools to create high-quality content, hands down!
Facebook Ads Library
One of the most underrated copywriting tools for your content marketing efforts, Facebook Ads Library is an online database where you can search and view advertisements that are currently running on Facebook and Instagram.
It works by allowing you to search for ads using keywords, Facebook Page names, or even specific advertisers.
One of the most powerful copywriting tools, Facebook Ads Library, gives you insights into messaging and targeting strategies that other businesses and organizations use.
Facebook Ads Library basically allows you to take a sneak peek at what’s working and what’s not working for other brands in your niche and use this information to create an informed and successful marketing campaign.
If you’re looking for a copywriting tool that helps you do completely free market and competitor research to inform your writing process so you can create relevant content for your target audiences, look no further than Facebook Ads Library!
Best Social Media Tools for Copywriters
There are great copywriting tools out there that can help you create persuasive social media posts.
Buffer
Buffer is a comprehensive social media management platform that allows copywriters to schedule social media posts, analyze performance metrics, and collaborate with others during the copywriting process.
Its intuitive interface and robust scheduling features definitely come in handy when managing social media content!
Canva
Canva is an intuitive graphic design tool that gives you a wide range of templates and design elements to create content for social media. Copywriters can use Canva to design engaging graphics that go together with the written content. This will help improve your engagement!
Hootsuite
Hootsuite allows copywriters to schedule posts, monitor social media conversations, and track mentions of their brand or keywords across multiple platforms. Its comprehensive suite of features makes the process of managing your social media presence easier!
Best Copywriting Tools for SEO
As a copywriter, you’re going to have to do some SEO optimization when working on website copy or blog posts. Optimizing for SEO means writing copy in a way that improves its search engine rankings. Fortunately, there are amazing tools to help you do that!
Semrush
If there was ONE copywriting tool you absolutely need to get, it’s Semrush.
SEO — or, if you want to get fancy, Search Engine Optimization — is one of the best long-term investments you can make in your business.
It helps you bring more leads in, boost your authority and credibility, get ahead of the competition, build more passive income streams, rank higher in search engines, and all kinds of other awesome things!
Here’s the thing, though.
To boost your SEO and rank higher on Google searches, you need an SEO tool. And Semrush is simply the best one.
There are SO many things you can do with it for SEO and copywriting that I HAD to make a list!
Keyword Research
Keywords are how your clients and customers find you.
Figuring out which keywords to use on your website and content marketing (looking at your blog ) is the first step of any content strategy.
Semrush’s Keyword Magic Tool definitely lives up to its name and helps you find keywords that’ll get you the most traffic.
It gives you data on how difficult it is to rank for a certain keyword, how many people are searching for it, who you’re competing with…
…ALL the things!
Content Optimization
It’s not enough to find the keywords for your content…you also need to know how to USE them!
Semrush SEO Writing Assistant is a content optimization tool that helps you figure out how to improve the readability, quality, tone of voice, and SEO of any piece of content you’re writing.
Plus, you can get it as a Google Docs extension; how unbelievably cool is that?!
Writing great content has never been easier.
Website Performance Analysis
Before you can figure out how to optimize your website, you gotta understand where it currently stands.
Semrush’s Domain Overview Tool gives you a snapshot of your traffic, search performance, backlinks, and more so you can see your website’s strengths and weaknesses and improve your online marketing.
You can see your stats both over time and in real-time, depending on what you want — handy, huh?!
Competitor Analysis
Want to stay ahead of your competition?
You gotta know what they’re up to.
Semrush has multiple tools, such as the Organic Research Tool and Keyword Gap Tool, to help you take a closer look at your competitors, identify gaps in their marketing, and use them to your advantage.
Competitor research is also a great way to generate fresh content ideas…just saying!
Other Copywriting Tools for SEO
Semrush subscription is a bit pricey, but it’s SOOOOO worth it if you’re serious about boosting your SEO.
If Semrush is not in your budget yet, there are other copywriting tools for SEO out there with a lower subscription fee or even free ones, such as Ubersuggest and Mangools…
…but if you haven’t noticed yet, I’m a die-hard Semrush fan.
Best Project Management Tools for Copywriters
Click Up
If you’re running an online business and working with different copywriting clients, you’re not ONLY writing copy.
You also need an effective way of organizing your projects and keeping them on track.
ClickUp is a project management software tool that makes it unbelievably easy to organize your workspace because, well, we all need a bit more structure in our lives, don’t we?!
My favorite thing about ClickUp?
How customizable it is.
You can very much make it your own with features like custom fields, statuses, automations…nerd away!
While ClickUp was not created specifically for copywriters, it’s an essential part of my copywriting business that makes running it 10x easier.
Notion
Notion is another fantastic project management tool for copywriters, especially if you’re more of a creative type.
Notion is arguably even more customizable than ClickUp, and it’s just so…PRETTY.
With its generous free plan, Notion is a great tool to create anything from to-do lists to fully custom client portals.
If you like to keep your business and personal life separate, Notion can be a good tool to organize things like your budget, personal goals, and weekly agenda.
There are some people who love to use the same platform for everything, but if you need to compartmentalize, using ClickUp as a project management tool for your copywriting business and Notion for your personal life is a solid option.
Try it out and see what works best for you!
Best Client Relationship Management Tool for Copywriters
Dubsado
When you’re a copywriter, tasks like setting up discovery calls with leads, sending proposals and contracts, and invoicing are simply never-ending.
Dubsado makes processes like client onboarding and offboarding much more seamless, so you actually have time to, you know, focus on writing great copy.
You can create contract templates, payment plans, customized proposals, questionnaires, client portals, and more to streamline your business processes AND automate them with comprehensive workflows.

Best Email Marketing Tools for Copywriters
Flodesk
50% of people buy from marketing emails at least once a month, so if you’re not using email marketing in your business yet…
… it’s time to get started.
Flodesk is a simple and design-forward email marketing platform that offers all the essential features, such as list segmentation, landing pages, and workflows.
Plus, it also has some helpful extras like resend to unopens and double opt-in.
I love Flodesk because it’s SO intuitive to design aesthetically pleasing newsletters with their design tool.
They also have a feature called Flodesk University, which is basically a series of video lessons that help you get started with email marketing and take your strategy to the next level.
If you have a large list or want more advanced features like A/B testing or subscriber tags, you might be interested in a more advanced email marketing platform like Active Campaign…
…but if you’re an entrepreneur or a small business, Flodesk gives you all the essentials without the headache, so you can ACTUALLY get started right away.
Coschedule Email Subject Line Tester
I don’t know about you, but coming up with email subject lines is one of the hardest parts of writing copy for some.
Your email subject lines have to be both engaging AND optimized…and sometimes you just need a little bit of inspiration, ya know?!
CoSchedule has an awesome Email Subject Line Tester tool that helps you write subject lines that’ll boost your open and conversion rates.
It’s great for when you have an approximate idea of what you want your email subject line to be…
…but need to refine your creative impulses with some hard data on what converts and what doesn’t.
Of course, keep in mind that the Email Subject Line Tester is still just a tool, and it doesn’t ALWAYS recognize humor or a clever reference to your favorite Netflix show.
FAQs
What Are the Benefits of Copywriting Tools?
To put it simply, copywriting tools allow you to write better copy and content faster.
From grammar and spelling corrections to help you do keyword research and figure out how to create copy that ranks highly on Google, there are SO many ways you can use copywriting tools to improve and streamline your writing process!
Are There Any Free Copywriting Tools?
Absolutely! Tools like Grammarly, Co-Schedule, WordCounter, and FacebookAds Library are available for free. Other tools, such as Notion and ClickUp, have free plans that are enough for most copywriters.
That said, many copywriting tools end up being investments, such as Dubsado to manage your clients or Semrush to do SEO research and craft content that ranks highly on Google.
You don’t have to get many copywriting tools all at once, but try to identify which tools would be most helpful in reaching your goals and allocate some budget toward getting them.
Is Using AI for Copywriting Legal?
This is a complicated topic, and the short answer is that it’s currently unclear. I recommend against using AI-generated content in your marketing because, technically, it’s not you writing it.
Aside from the legal matters, using AI is likely going to result in generic, robot-like copy that’s not going to resonate with your target audience!
Should Copywriters Use AI Copywriting Tools?
Nope! I recommend you don’t use AI copywriting tools to create your copy and content. It may be helpful to ideate sometimes, but copywriting is ultimately an extremely creative skill.
Good copywriting is driven by a deep understanding of buyer psychology and human FEELINGS, and AI simply can’t do that! For examples of human-driven copy from a professional copywriter, check out our portfolio.
The Bottom Line
Copywriting is an art and a science, and running your own copywriting business is…well, a WILD mix of both.
Whether you’re just starting out or have been at it for a while and want to grow your business, having the right tools that help you write better copy AND run your business more efficiently is 100% worth the investment.
